Block and filter pornography
& other offensive material from your home computer

More and more parents are getting informed of how much pornographic and offensive material is on the internet and kids are getting exposed to it.  Research have show that most users of pornographic material on the internet is on the age of 12-17 and on average of 11 years old will a child see his first pornographic material online.  It is not just those kids looking for pornographic websites that are getting exposed to pornography is a real problem.  Kids are accidentally writing wrong names for web address and then they stumble into something offensive and damaging as adult website.  Kids may also use wrong words in searches that get them to harmful websites.  At last, there are too many cases of website with flash games that sometimes have banners with pornographic material or gambling advertised on those kids website.

If you have downloads Responsible Surfing and have decided to use the filter you can either choose custom made profile of e.g. young children profile, adolescence profile.  But if you want to use the parental control software with little bit more control, you may want to look at some of the options you have.
Let’s look at some of those options and how best of use the options can be for your kids safe surfing:

1. The inbuilt filter with database:  Responsible Surfing comes with inbuilt filter of sites that are considered harmful.  In this database there are over 50.000 sites being blocked.  When this filter is turned on, what happens when a user tries to enter one of those sites he or she will get blocked from accessing those websites

2. The Admin - parental list of blocked sites:  Even though the Responsible Surfing team is always updating websites in the database and our team is always getting information from users on sites to block, there will always be sites that are not in the list. There are sites you may considered harmful or unhealthy for your kids even though others may not necessary agree with your opinion.  Therefore a good thing to consider is build your own list of sites you want to block your kids from accessing in the admin –parental list of block sites.

3. Dynamic content filter.  The dynamic content filter might be the filter that is doing the most filtering for you.  This filter screens all sites user is going to enter and if the content of the site is considered harmful, the site will be blocked.  So even if a user tries to enter a relative new website that has not been noticed by our database team, the dynamic filter will block the site based on the content.  The filter screens for words on the site and if you want to have more control you have the ability to delete or add word from and to the list.  The filter can also be set to mild, moderate and strong filtering method.

4. Allowed list of site: The allowed list is probably not the first thing you will think of when choosing a filter, but at the same time could be the most valuable in effective filtering in th long run

a. First is the database of allowed site Responsible Surfing team has made of kids safe surfing sites

b. Secondly is the parental list of allowed sites.  These allowed list can be used in many ways

i. Making sure those sites you have checked will never be blocked.  Site can accidentally be blocked e.g. if the contains articles on safe surfing with some offensive word on the site written positively but not harmfully.   If you have already added the site to allowed list it will not block it with dynamic filtering.

ii. You may also decide to allow your child only to access certain amount of websites of your choice.  So you can set the parental control software to allow only sites from allowed list.  By this setting all other sites other than you have in your allowed list will be blocked

Safe surfing!
