As with most things bullying seems to be developing and changing with the times. Researchers from the UK have discovered a new development in recent months, bullying online and through mobile phones. A recent survey from the BBC showed that as many as 15% of children have received threatening or mean messages as email or SMS. The survey which spanned 4 years and included 11.000 children showed that this type of bullying has increased dramatically in recent years. Generally the survey showed that girls are more likely to admit to having received threatening messages and therefore the amount of children affected may be higher. Bullying online is viewed as similar to slander and as such an undirect form of bullying that spreads fast through schools and beyond. It is important for parents and authority figures to be aware of this type of bullying and that they attempt to respond. Parental control software monitoring system can be a helpful tool for families to fight bullying. By turning on screenshots monitoring a child can be trained in telling the parents when someone bullies them in chat. Parents have then ability to go back and check the chat and use the screeshots to report to other child parents or school autority.
